About Us

Hand-Built Timber. No Kits. Built Properly.

I’m Jason Kyte, founder of Ontario Outdoor Rooms.

For more than a decade, I’ve been building heavy timber pergolas and pavilions designed specifically for Ontario backyards. When you spend enough time building outdoors, you learn what lasts — and what doesn’t. Our climate is demanding. Sun, snow, wind, and constant freeze-thaw cycles test everything.

Every structure we build is custom designed and fully fabricated in our shop, then carefully transported and assembled on site. Most installations are completed in two to three days, keeping disruption and mess to a minimum while ensuring the structure goes together precisely the way it was built.

We work with full-thickness Douglas Fir timbers and build each project with careful attention to proportion, alignment, and long-term durability.

There’s a difference you can feel when you stand beneath a heavy timber structure. The weight, the texture, the presence — it feels grounded and permanent.

I’ve chosen to build this way because outdoor structures should age naturally and look better over time. We don’t overly machine the wood smooth like indoor furniture. The natural grain and texture remain, allowing finishes to absorb properly and the timber to weather with character rather than peeling or fading prematurely.

My approach is straightforward: clear communication, fair pricing, and careful workmanship from start to finish. Your investment goes into real materials and real craftsmanship — not commissions or unnecessary middle layers.

I enjoy working with wood, being outdoors, and building something families genuinely use. Whether it’s a quiet morning coffee or a full backyard gathering, these structures become part of how people spend time at home. That’s what makes the work meaningful.

If you’re considering a pergola or pavilion and want it built properly, I’d be happy to talk through your project.
