Handcrafted Timber Structures

Built From Real Timbers — Not Manufactured Kits

We Build Heavy Timber Pavilions By Hand — From Full-Thickness Timbers

Because how the wood is prepared matters just as much as the wood itself.

Why We Don’t Plane Timbers Smooth

When timber is heavily planed, the surface becomes compressed and tight.
The grain gets closed off.

It looks clean. Sharp. Perfect.

But that smooth, sealed surface doesn’t absorb stain the same way.

The finish tends to sit more on the surface instead of penetrating deeply into the grain. Over time — especially in Ontario weather — surface-level stain breaks down faster.

Sun. Snow. Freeze-thaw. Moisture.

Outdoor structures live a hard life.

We hand-sand our timbers instead of over-machining them. The grain remains open. The wood can accept stain properly. The finish bonds deeper.

It doesn’t just coat the outside.

It soaks in.

The result is a structure that ages naturally instead of peeling or flashing unevenly after a season or two.

Example of planed smooth timbers one year after installation.
Same wood. Same stain. Different result over time.
